The National Association for School Psychologists (NASP) is a highly esteemed professional organization that supports school psychologists in the United States through the promotion of effective practices to improve students’ learning, behavior, and mental health. With a recognized framework of ten domains of practice, NASP’s comprehensive guidelines serve as a universal benchmark, even for us in Canada, shaping our professional standards and informing our service delivery to enhance the psychological well-being and academic achievement of our students.
The following domains, while described below as distinct, regularly interact and intersect within the context of service delivery. Understanding the domains helps inform the range of knowledge and skills school psychologists can provide. The NASP Practice Model outlines how services are integrated to best meet the needs of students, families, and the school community.
This section was originally developed during my graduate training to demonstrate growth across the NASP domains through coursework, practicum experiences, and applied work samples. I have preserved these pages as part of my professional learning portfolio, while my current practice as a Licensed School Psychologist continues to be informed by these domains.
